Dear Parents and Community
I would like to introduce
myself and share with you some of the insights I have gained in the past two
weeks while beginning the work of serving as your Interim School District Superintendent.
My name is Dr. Brad Hawk and
I come to your district as a professor at Northern Illinois University, a
retired superintendent of Burlington Central School District #301, a former
principal and teacher with over 44 years of public school experience. I am
married with 5 children and 11 grandchildren with number 12 due any day.
I feel privileged to have
been asked by the Board of Education of District #428 to step in as the interim
superintendent during a time when trust and relationship building are needed.
My experience has taught me that in order for a school district to excel, there
needs to be a relentless focus on students; a strong culture of collaboration
and trust among the staff; and transparency through a partnership with the community.
Over the past two weeks, I
have visited all the schools and done a lot of listening. My observations,
while new, are clear: District 428 is in very good hands. The principals and
assistant principals share the belief that any a school district must do all it
possibly can to ensure students are getting a high quality education. The
relationships between the teachers, staff and students are extremely strong and
highly professional. I have in fact told many of the school leaders that I
would feel very comfortable with my grandchildren being educated in District
From the perspective of the Board
of Education and from my observations, the quality of instruction and service
for students in the classrooms of the district has not been negatively impacted
by the changes and transition in leadership. The teachers, buildings staff and
principals have done an outstanding job of insuring that it has been business
as usual for our students.
I look forward to getting to
know you and hearing your perspective and will serve you and the District #428
the very best way I can.
Dr. Bradley Hawk
